David Gabunia – PROTECTION OF INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY. In book: THE EU EASTERN PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME AND PROSPECTS OF INNOVATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF GEORGIA

 

Industrial property protection acquires a special importance in the management of innovation and economic processes. Its place and role has become particularly apparent under conditions of a science-based economy, the principal constituent elements of which are industrial property objects. Today, the problems related to industrial property and the ways of its protection
improvement are in the focus of attention of both national governments, as well as regional and international organizations and constitute one of the priorities of completion of the Georgia
Action Plan of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the EaP’s Flagship Initiative “Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA)”. The article aims at familiarizing the reader
with the essence of industrial property, demonstrating him/ her the growing impact of this institution on the ongoing innovation processes in the EU and all over the world, acquainting the
existing in Georgia situation in connection with the mentioned sphere. The work describes individual objects of industrial property (inventions, industrial designs, trademarks, geographical
indications), reviews international agreements operating in the sphere, as well as Georgian legislation on industrial property and activities relating to its protection in the country. In addition,
the work provides views and opinions concern the ways of improvement the local protection of industrial property in the framework of Georgia-EU cooperation and the opportunities of of better
use of such cooperation in this direction in the future.
